2023 General Convention

The initial call to Convention will be sent to the clergy in mid-July by mail, and an information packet will be sent to the parishes shortly thereafter, containing further details. Documents to be discussed will be emailed no later than August 20, so that delegates will have ample opportunity to examine them before Convention.

A major part of the business this year will be the completion of the canonical process by which the existing bicameral General Convention will be transformed into a unicameral General Synod via a constitutional amendment and alterations to the canons. This process began at the 2020 General Convention. Further canonical revisions will also be addressed as part of the ongoing process of simplification and clarification which began at the 2014 General Convention. The intent is to bring the canons in line with present needs of the UECNA. Clergy and congregational discipline may be addressed this year. Proposals will also be brought forward for the transformation of the National Council into an Executive Committee, which will act as a sort of denominational standing committee between General Synods.

Travel

Car: Waynesboro lies in the middle section of the Shenandoah Valley, close to the junction of Interstate 81 and the eastern section of Interstate 64, which runs from Staunton to Norfolk.

Air: The nearest airports are Shenandoah Valley (SHD, 20 miles) and Charlottesville-Albemarle (CHO, 34 miles).

Rail: Amtrak serves Staunton (10 miles) and Charlottesville (26 miles). Convention will coincide witht the thrice-weekly Cardinal to/from Staunton. Charlottesville is served daily by the Crescent and Northeast Regional trains.

Ground Transportation: Rides from the airport or Amtrak station can be arranged by contacting the church.

Climate

October temperatures average a high of 67° and a low of 43°, with six days of rain.

Enjoy the amazing autumn colors. Waynesboro is at the northern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is just ten minutes from the church and has no entry fee.
